ALA's Reading List Awards

Via SFSignal: The American Library Association's first Reading List Awards for genre fiction has been announced. The list, chosen by a council of "ten librarians who are experts in readers' advisory and collection development" includes two Pyr titles: Ian McDonald's Brasyland Kay Kenyon's Bright of the Sky.

Woo-hoo!

Bright of the Sky is a great as yet unappreciated novel. Hopefully that will change when a paperback edition becomes broadly available.

Well, I appreciate the sentiment, but I'd say under-appreciated, not unappreciated. Bright was chosen by Publishers Weekly as one of the best SF&F novels of 2007, and it showed up on several websites Best of 2007 lists too, before this ALA Award. And more and more people seem to be waking up to this.

As to the paperback becoming widely available - that just happened last week. I saw copies of the trade paperback in my local B&N and two nearby BooksAMillion stores. So it is out there! Thanks for spreading the word!
