As I get ready to fly up to Buffalo to meet the Prometheus
Books team in person, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to you, the
readers and fans of Pyr.
I have the greatest respect for what Lou Anders and the
people at Prometheus Books have done with Pyr over the past nearly ten years and
am proud to be a part of continuing to bring our readers high-quality genre
fiction. Growing up, I almost always had a book in my hands, and it was usually
science fiction and fantasy. I cut my teeth on Narnia, but truly got the SFF
bug when I was gifted Ursula LeGuin's A
Wizard of Earthsea for my twelfth birthday. In the decades since then, I
have continued to read across all manner of genres, but most voraciously in SFF.
I also have a lifelong appreciation for art, and paint and work with textiles
myself. I have a masters degree in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of
Art and Design, and look forward to coordinating cover art with the talented designers at Prometheus
Books..
I began working with Lou in 2010 as his editorial assistant,
reading unsolicited manuscripts. As time passed, my duties expanded to include
proofreading and copyediting, as well as assisting with promotional efforts,
including working on Pyr-a-zine, our e-newsletter. I traveled to Atlanta for
DragonCon, enjoying the chance to connect with our readers, talk about books,
and then do a lot of matchmaking, connecting readers with books I knew they’d
love. As someone who has been part of the Prometheus family for several years,
I'm honored to be a part of Pyr's next phase and to shepherd fantastic and
engrossing books you have come to expect from us from manuscript to shelf. I hope
to pop in periodically on this blog and Pyr social media when I find myself
with news to share, questions to ask, or just to say hi.
